Sometimes leadership ends up in the hands of someone who deserves it. Someone who is wiser than most, someone who actually knows better. Wisdom is hard to define yet easy to recognize. Imagine working for someone that you can ask for sound advice, in business and in your professional life. Wisdom can be defined as the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. Any and all of these three criteria are cornerstones of great leadership.
The Dilbert Principle by cartoonist Scott Adams states that companies tend to systematically promote their least competent employees to management, to limit the amount of damage they are capable of doing. There are many examples of this. While the level of competencies in a given trade may not be the most significant indicator of leadership performance, level of general wisdom certainly is.
